As a leader, the Director of Children's Ministry must be committed to growing in her or his own faith and must also demonstrate a servant’s heart with a concern for the most vulnerable in our society. The Director of Children’s Ministry will also be expected to identify, train, and resource unpaid staff and coordinators for each of the ministry areas under her or his supervision. Because the Director of Children's Ministries is an advocate for the spiritual needs of the church's children and a resource to parents, she or he must be spiritually mature and consistent; have a passion for the gospel (good news of God’s love); committed to a United Methodist/Wesleyan view of faith and scripture; possess a highly creative and dynamic view that translates to curriculum, spatial design, and outside the box thinking; have a passion and vision for children and families; be able to communicate and organize effectively; and be eager to work with a ministry team. Formal knowledge and training in Christian education and children's ministry is desired. Microsoft readiness helpful. Educational Requirements: Academic and/or three years professional experience in children’s education (with a desire for continued training and learning). Certified Christian Education or equivalent certification/degree or plans to obtain certification. Experience in multi-staff church desirable with ability to teach/plan activities for an effective children’s ministry. Meet state-required qualifications for director of a licensed preschool or plans to obtain qualifications as well as receive at least three contact hours of continuing education annually as approved by the state licensing agency.
