This thread is for posting pics and "how-to make" palm trees, rocks, mountains, and related "desert" decor for classroom themes and sets (popular in the Workshop Rotation Model).

Feel free to post your pics.

One good source of pics and how-to's is pinterest's "Paper Palm Tree" search results.

FYI:  Fiberfill makes great clouds, and also acts as a sound-dampener in "live" rooms.

Or purchase...

Party supply websites have a lot of palm tree and tiki decoration options. As seen immediately above, these cardboard cutouts are 6 feet tall and hinged so they can be individually bent. Typically about $5 a piece and last for years.

"Meaningfulmama.com's website has a great tutorial on how to make a fake palm using the an old umbrella (with its fabric stripped off) and plastic palm leaves from the hobby store wrapped around the umbrella ribs. The trunk is a paper tube wrapped in crumpled brown bags and slipped over a microphone stand.

This teacher's YouTube video shows you how to make ROCKS and rock walls using heavy paper, painting it to add color AND stiffness, then crumpling it,

....and then unfolding it and STAPLING the "gathered" the edges (great idea!).

BOXES can make great "village walls"

You can also hang a large sheet of butcher paper and glue squares of cardboard "bricks" to it.
