The following link was posted by Luanne Payne in response to a ART lesson in this forum which  uses an image about a strange animal called an "CAMELEPHANTELOPELICANARY".

 

"Boris the Camel" – is an online presentation about a camel who saw the talents of other animals and added them to his own.

 

You can download for free and copy to a disk so you can copy onto other computers, if you use it in that format.

You can make it 'bigger' on the screen by using this link: http://www.st-bridgets.org.uk/mod5/boris.swf ...and resizing your browser window to hide the margin. I have also copied the swf file for safekeeping and attached it to this post for techies who know how to run with it.


To play it:   just right click on the downloaded file name "boris.swf" and select:

"OPEN WITH" and then select the name of your internet browsers, such as, Internet Explorer or Firefox or whatever internet program you use.

It will automatically play on your computer (does not require an internet connection if you saved it to your computer).  Children will need to read text, then click NEXT to turn pages. On the last page to turn him back to normal the kids have to click on each extra body part to remove it.

I was also thinking you could print this on coloured overheads (if you don't have a video projector). You would not get the animation, but it would make a great story opening when you first gather – or make up you own flannegraph or have a picture of an elephant and pre-drawn pictures of body parts to add to story.

The Nest video The Parables of Jesus features three of the most famous parables, including Parable of the Talents.

 

Nest Parables of Jesus also includes: The Rich Man and Lazarus, and the Two Sons (Prodigal Son).  Here are my thoughts on how those parables can be interpreted in light of the teaching of the Talents Parable:

 

The Rich Man is someone who thought he was RICH, but buried his gifts by hoarding his money and not living a righteous life. Lazarus has the gift of faith and is rewarded.

 

What is the Prodigal's Gift?  The love of his father, the ability to confess.

What is the Older Son's BURIED gift?  He buried his forgiveness under judgment and anger. 

What is the Father's Gift?  Patience, generosity, forgiveness.

DVD - When your gifts seem to be hidden sometimes it helps to take a closer look!

"A Closer Look" (Paws and Tales) a 3-D animated mystery from Chuck Swindoll and Insight for Living, 0845547010033. 

This DVD was released in Sept. 2005, but I just came across it recently and after previewing it was really impressed by the storyline, animation, and the characters. It includes fun segments where one of the characters thinks she's Dick Tracy and it goes to black & white sequences, brought back memories.

"A story about celebrating our God-given abilities and encouraging us to use them to serve one another. Based on the popular radio series called Paws & Tales. 

Staci's convinced she doesn't do anything well. After all, she can't paint amazing pictures like Gooz or spell nearly as well as Ned. But when a mysterious gift is left on her doorstep, Staci must use all of her skill to crack the case and reveal the gift-giver. It's a clue-solving adventure that will send Staci and her palls to the edge of Wildwood and back again! Running time is approximately 30 minutes. Recommended for ages 6 to 10."

Their are currently two in this series - the other one is called "Seeing the Unseen" about believing in God when you cannot see him. It is also excellent.   A short pdf from the creators for Parents/Teachers link.

 


 

 

MAX7 has a really nice short animation (free to download) on the Parable of Talents link.  Music soundtrack, nothing is spoken, very nice!  (4:37 mins)

"GRATITUDE TV"

Creating an interactive Stewardship "TV" display for kids and adults to add comments about what they are grateful for.

 

(This could also be an art project.)

 

Students assemble and illustrate a scroll which are turned on dowel rods. Viewer hand-cranks the rods to turn the scroll.  This is an old a-v idea with many applications. Can be large or small.

THE TWIST:  Making it interactive....allowing others to add to your "Gratitude TV"

 

1. Make this a BIG BOX for display in a prominent location in the church.

 

2. Assemble the scrolling paper on rods inside the box so that a sheet of cardboard fits BEHIND the pages. This is to give people a hard surface to write their own comments right on the scroll-screen.  (Several ways to do this.)

 

3. In addition to what the student will add to the scroll, VISITORs will be invited to add to the scroll screen after it is mounted in the box (hence, the need for a firm backing to write on).

 

4. At INTERVALS on the scroll, students will create a LABELED BLANK SPACE STATEMENTS with categories such as,

 

"I'm grateful for my pet...."

"I am grateful for this special person in my life...."

"I am grateful for this particular special place in my world..." 

"I thank God for giving me...."

etc

etc

 

Students can pre-position images on these blank spaces, such as, a picture of the church or a pet.

 

Students should add Bible verses to the outside of the Box, or on a screen.

 

5. On one page, cover it with silver mylar so that it's a mirror. Add the label, "We are thankful for you, a child of God."

 

6. Hang markers attached to string for 'viewers' to add their comments.

 

7. Leave it up for a few Sundays and then "play" the Gratitude TV in a children's sermon.
