This topic is for sharing ideas and link to Christian "mission" or service projects to be conducted during the season of Advent by children and/or their families.

The projects should be for children, youth and family, and should not include projects merely seeking monetary donations. (this will exclude 90% of "appeals" and denominational programs!)

You are welcome to describe LOCAL projects unique to your area or church as they may inspire others to do the same in their area. Add photos and links.

You are welcome to share non-denominational or denominational projects which have a mission emphasis but they should be associated with the Advent season in some way.

For example: "Giving Trees" are a popular way many churches encourage members to purchase "presents" for others who are in need. Working with a local agency, the names, sizes, and needs of the recipient are recorded on a tag which is then plucked from a tree by a volunteer.

Children can help create the tree, shop for the needs, collect the offerings, and distribute the offerings. They can also figure out how to raise money to fulfill the needs of someone in need.

"Operation Christmas"

conducted by The Samaritan's Purse

Children receive a special "shoebox"  to fill with a variety of dollar-store items that will be given to children in other countries by Christian agencies and churches.  They encourage personalizing the box and you can see where it went.

You need to be collecting filled boxes by mid-November so that the boxes can be distributed overseas during Advent.

Non-denominational, Samaritan's Purse is a large and highly respected mission agency that helps Christian kids, families, and all those recovering from disasters.

Service Inspirations

The web is full of LISTS of service projects and "things kids and families can do" to celebrate Christmas by helping others.

Here are but a few. Plenty of inspiration on these lists.

Buy a Farm Animal for a Family through Compassion International or the Heifer Project

Create a "Service" Advent Calendar ~ Something to do each day to serve others

24 Days of Random Acts of Kindness (Calendar)
https://www.coffeecupsandcrayo...ble-advent-calendar/This site has four different printable calendars from past years. The ads are annoying but the suggestions are worth the aggravation.

"Pass-It-On" Gift Game also called "The 12 Gifts of Christmas Game"
