Looking for some new family-friendly ideas for Advent (yes, I know it's almost here!!!) for our three worship services. We always have an Advent wreath with candles and have tried a variety of things over the years -- traditional readings based on the candles (Hope - Prophets, Love - Joseph, Joy - Mary, Peace - Shepherds), lectionary readings and for the last two years we have had short readings and chosen an object to place on the altar as a visual symbol. The objects remained all through Advent. That was actually pretty cool, but would like to do something different this year.

In Sunday school we'll be using the rotation Jesus' birth through the eyes of Isaiah with a focus on the names for Jesus and their meanings... so I would like to somehow tie that in. I thought about doing the paper chains with names for Jesus printed on them... give each member of the congregation a slip of paper and have them at some point in the service link them together. Over four weeks we'd end up with quite a visual... has anyone done this in a worship service? Or other ideas? I definitely want a visual of some sort and some way for the congregation to be included. I thought about using those same slips of paper with names and making a collage on canvas and then maybe adding a symbol to it... Light maybe???

Would love any ideas!

Blessings,

Jaymie
