At-Home Celebrations and Activities for Advent
Here are some of the Rotation.org community's favorite "at-home" ideas for families who want to celebrate Advent and the Christmas story a little differently.
Some of these ideas were originally created and shared during the COVID pandemic, so they may include social-distancing restrictions you no longer need to follow. As always, glean what you need!
Several of these ideas would be great to adapt for adults without children too.
1. An Advent Scavenger Hunt!
Read and copy the details here in our Advent 2020-21 Ideas forum.
An at-home special meal and celebration that borrows its theme of "light" from the festival of Hannukah to celebrate the light of the world at Christmas time.
A "Haggadah" is a special meal that celebrates a special story. Includes a script you can use. Perhaps this is the new home tradition you've been looking for
Here are several fun "Christmas song games" you can play with children, youth, and adults, singers and non-singers, to celebrate and get your choir-of-angels excited to share the message.
4. Creative Advent Projects for every age you can easily do at home
Highlights of this creative forum of ideas include:
→ A Sidewalk Chalk Advent Art Project that shares the message of Christmas with neighbors
→ Nativity Rocks! for display, gifts, and leaving in public places
→ Make Your Own "Flat Lay" Nativity Video! Flat Lay is a really fun way to re-enact the Christmas story while laying on your living room floor and recording it with your cellphone from above.
