Post here your suggestions for Bible story books that appeal to older students - sort of between a picture book and a complete text Bible.

AUGSBURG STORY BIBLE, by Augsburg Fortress, 1992, ISBN: 0806626070
Review: It contains 142 stories from the Old and New Testament, using the words from the NRSV but shortened to fit the available space. The pictures are exquisite and thought-provoking, with a very Middle Eastern flavor. In addition to full-page illustrations, there are small engaging drawings on most pages. The best part of the illustrations is the occasional inclusion of modern day folk. For example, Mother Teresa is clearly the innkeeper, tucking the robbery victim in bed after the aid of the Good Samaritan. There are holocaust victims, Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi, in the illustrations among the beatitudes. It's well done. Reviews suggest Grade 4 Up.

THE CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATED BIBLE, by Selina Hastings, Dorling Kindersley Ltd., 1994, ISBN: 1564584720.
Description: Illustrations on every page plus a variety of other artwork, including maps and color photographs of artifacts, plants, biblical places, animals, people, and architecture, of the time. Suggested Ages 9-12.

THE LOVING ARMS OF GOD, by Anne Elizabeth Stickney, Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 2001, ISBN: 0802851711.
Review: suggest Grades 3 - 6 ... a good book with basic Bible stories written in paraphrase fashion. There are questions before and after each story - good to use for those teachers who need a little help in delivering the story. While the artwork is beautiful, the pictures are not very big. Would be good as a devotional book as well. Wendy

We use The Children’s Bible in 365 Stories
by Mary Batchelor, Lion Publishing, (Cook) 1995, ISBN 0745930689. If it can't be found through amazon.com or your Christian Book store try logos-system.org
resources--Bible Study, Elem.
These stories can be read to younger elementary and older--probably 4th grade and up can read them. The stories are short 1-2 pages.

Bible Story Books I have used with middle school students are:

The Family Story Bible published by Westminszter John Knox Press

Children of God Storybook Bible by Archbishop Desmond Tutu published by Zonderkidz

The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones published by Zonderkidz

I AM: 40 Reasons to trust God by Diane Stortz published by Thomas Nelson Publishers.

I have a fairly large collection of books for Holy Week-Easter and Nativity.  Please let me know if you are interested in single picture Storybooks for these stories.
