Camp Bible Wahoo! is:

A Church Camp Theme for your Rotation Sunday School.

A Church Camp Theme for your Summer Sunday School that uses rotation style.

A Church Camp Theme for a special set of lessons,

...or to give your other workshops a break.

Camp Bible Wahoo!  was the "church camp themed" Sunday School rotation I wrote as a Summer Sunday School curriculum in my small (former) church.   3 workshops, 3 weeks on each story, for a total of 9 weeks during our summer Sunday School.

You can drop any Bible stories into this theme.

A camping theme is a fun, inexpensive, and quick way to decorate your spaces or use the outdoors. We set up tents as classrooms, had a fake indoor campfire, and used lots of fake Xmas trees, cheap wood fence sections, logs, beach gear, and inflatables to decorate. The teachers and kids dressed in camp gear and we had camp snacks.

Each week in Camp Bible Wahoo!  began with a gathering we called Gospel Grove. There we held a sing-a-along and introduced the story for the day. Then the kids split into one of two thirty minute workshops:

Lake Bible Wahoo! Theater for a video, and the Computer Tent Campsite for software use.  On the third week of the rotation all the kids stayed at Gospel Grove for skits, more songs, and a quiz game.

In addition to songs about each story, we created a Camp Theme Song using the ever-popular kids song, "Pharaoh Pharoah, O Baby Let My People Go".  Those lyrics are available at the link.

We built "Gospel Grove" in our fellowship hall for use all summer long. It made our program  highly visibility to parents and leaders who really enjoyed peeking in our tents while they sipped their coffee before Sunday School. Needless to say, the kids freaked out with excitement.

We chose the stories of Good Sam, Daniel in the Lion's Den, and Paul's Journey for our Summer Rotation Program. The lessons and lesson ideas used can be found here at Rotation.org at details on Camp Bible Wahoo.  We used the Nest videos about Good Sam, Daniel, and Paul, and our Good Sam the Samaritan software CD.

Here are some pictures...

And yes, the Lake Bible Wahoo! theater had REAL SAND in the classroom. Not messy at all because of the beach area we built.

Additional Camp Themed Workshop Ideas

Cooking:
Camp stove
Outdoor fireplace or campfire (check local laws, some locales may give special permit)

Forest Room:
See description of Lake Bible Wahoo above and use mulch instead. Mulch can be reused in garden afterwards. For benches, nail a 2x10 to two logs/stumps.
Hang inexpensive Camoflage tarps behind donated artificial C-mas trees. Place tent in corner.

Hiking Workshop:
Depending on your church's location and your story, hike your class to a nearby location. Who could they meet along the way? For example, "hike down the Jericho Road and meet the Samaritan, Levite and Innkeeper."  How do you prepare for and "know the right way to go" ?
