Trumpets made from Garden Hose
We did a rotation on Joshua/Jericho and the children made their own trumpets out of a piece of garden hose, tape, and a funnel. Then they marched around four walls of cardboard and someone in the middle knocked them down. The kids loved it, but if you can afford new hoses do it, we soaked some used hoses in bleach 2 times and still the hoses smelt a bit like old hoses.

We did something similar to LLL. In the art workshop (which began a week earlier than the music workshop) the kids made trumpets using paper towel holders taped/glues to 2liter drink bottles that had been cut in half. The adults spray painted these gold ahead of time, then the kids were able to assemble and decorate their own horns and additional horns for any visitors that might come and have missed the art workshop.

we did a joshua lesson at vbs this summer and we had the children make horns. We used the top end of a 2 liter bottle taped to a wrapping paper tube. We covered the whole thing in aluminum foil. then they made a banner to hang from the horn with anything they wanted on it. We got lots of 'Praise the Lord' and 'God Loves me' but a few were unique. At the end of the day, they marched around the church seven times-like in the story. You could use this with the Wall idea. rosaline.
Ark of the Covenant Posted by Marystough
We did a unit on Joshua in May at our church, for grades 1-5. One workshop constructed an Ark of the Covenant after reading the directions from the Old Testament. Each week, the group did the next step, and we used the Ark in our final "Jericho Day" activity, where all the kids role-played the story of the Exodus and coming to the Promised Land outside. Hot, but fun!

Other workshops included a game of Jeopardy to review facts about the Exodus story, a music workshop to make horns and noisemakers, and an art workshop in which they made "memorial stones" by heating flat rocks in the oven and then crayoning symbols and simple pictures on them. We used these rocks in the final event, too - under the sprinklers for the River Jordan!

We will be doing this lesson in October, and plan to direct focus also to Joshua 3:1-4;24, where Joshua is directed to have the twelve tribes select a stone and take to the other side where a memorial will be established, for all to know what God had done for them, (their children, grandchildren, etc; emphasizing this memorial is still there today for testimony to God).
We have decided to make stepping stones, using small pizza boxes for mold, we will reinforce quik-crete with coat hangers inside, this will make transport easy as well in that we will flip the lid down.
