Here is a list of those Veggie Tale Videos that are largely focused on the RE-TELLING of a Bible story, and thus are particularly helpful to Sunday School. (Some VT videos are less helpful to Sunday School because they have little faith/Bible content in them or there are much better videos available.

To find other or better Bible story videos, look up your Bible story in our Lesson Forums and go to your story's Video Workshop topic.

Update: The company which now owns Veggie Tales has repackaged many of their classic titles and put together some collections. They can also now be viewed and/or downloaded online. Google "watch Veggie Tales online."

I'm also gonna say this about Veggie Tales: Back in the day we were grateful to have them. Wasn't easy to find kid-friendly animated videos. But now it's much easier. Look up your Bible story in our Lesson Forums' Video Workshop topics for our favorites!

The Little House That Stood

Modern take on the Parable of the Wise & Foolish Builders about making good choices.

Abe and the Amazing Promise

The first part of this episode tells the story of Abraham and Sara waiting to have the child. This episode teaches about patience.

Are You My Neighbor?

Teaches about loving one’s neighbor. The Good Samaritan.

Dave and the Giant Pickle

The little guy defeating the big guy recreates the story of David and Goliath to teach about self-esteem.

Duke and the Great Pie War

One part of the video is the story of Ruth and the other is the story of the childhood of Moses and Miriam. The lesson in this episode is about loving one’s family.

Esther: The Girl Who Became Queen

Gideon: Tuba Warrior

This episode retells the story of Gideon and teaches about trusting God.

Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie

This was the first VeggieTales movie. The movie tells the basic Biblical story of Jonah in a VeggieTales context. God is forgiving and gives second chances and we should do the same. (longer than other videos)

Josh and the Big Wall

The story of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho in the Bible and about obedience.

King George and the Ducky

Loosely based on the Biblical story of David and Bathsheba. It teaches about selfishness.

Rack, Shack, and Benny

Peer pressure and the Biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

The Ballad of Little Joe

This episode tells the Biblical story of Joseph set in the Old West. It teaches about facing hardship.

Moe and the Big Exit

Sequel to The Ballad of Little Joe video. Retells the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. It teaches about following directions (similar theme to the obedience in Josh and the Big Wall).

Where’s God When I’m Scared?

Based on the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den. This episode deals with handling fear (only 15 mins).

Noah's Ark

Tells the story of Noah's Ark.  This episode is based on trusting God.

The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's

Based on the story of The Prodigal Son. It does get to the end of the story with the father welcoming the wayward son home with open arms. No segment about the brother. The heavier weight of theme is "you can't always have what you want", more than forgiveness, but it does a reasonably accurate job of following the basic story.

Downloadable Lesson Plans & Activity Sheets for VeggieTales

The VeggieTales site has a home video resource page here.  It allows you to download coloring pages, activity sheets, and lesson plans for their various videos.

As pictured below, the guides also list the theme of the lesson (patience, unconditional love, etc), a Bible verse, and (if it applies) the Bible story.

2021 Moderator Update: The guides are no longer available on the Veggietales website link above. I discovered the reason is they've been taken over by the "Clubhouse Jr. Magazine" - some free downloads are on that website https://www.focusonthefamily.c.../bible/veggie-tales/, it appears others are printed randomly in the Clubhouse Jr. Magazine.

What's in the Bible series for kidsWhat's in the Bible?

The great video series for kids and Sunday Schools by the creator of VeggieTales.

Phil Vischer the creator of VeggieTales later created an even greater collection of Christian videos for kids introducing them to the Bible. It's called "What's in the Bible?" and consists of thirteen DVDs each about 50-minutes long and split into two episodes. (The videos can now be streamed as well.)

They have the humor of Veggie Tales but with much more depth and much more Bible content. You'll see many of them recommended in our Bible Story Lesson resource forums in the Video Workshop section for each Bible story.

Rotation.org has produced OUTLINES and teaching guides for all 13 DVDs and uploaded them to our Supporting Members Resource Forum.

25 Things You May Not Know About Veggie Tales

(in part, confirming why many Christian educators do not prefer Veggie Tales for Sunday School)

Excerpts from a blog post by Lifeway Research

8. Not as Much Bible As You Remember

VeggiesTales is commonly described a show where vegetables tell Bible stories to kids. But in actuality, only a small percentage of the videos consisted of retold Bible stories.

Instead, the overwhelming majority of shows involved spoofs of popular literary tales or well-known pop culture stories such as Indiana Jones (“Minnesota Cuke”) or Lord of the Rings (“Lord of the Beans”).

Each episode did introduce kids to a Bible verse that supported the episode’s theme.

9. Old Testament Emphasis

Of the VeggieTales shows that featured actual stories from Scripture, the canonical representation skewed heavily in favor of the Old Testament.

The breakdown goes: Genesis (featured in three videos); Exodus (2); Joshua (1); Judges (1); Esther (1); 1 Samuel (1); Daniel (2); Jonah (1); Luke (1).

Turns out, there’s a reason why the New Testament was used so sparingly…

10. Mom’s Rules

Vischer’s mom, who has a Ph.D. in Christian Education, gave him some initial rules about creating VeggieTales. They included: 1) You will not portray Jesus as a vegetable, and 2) try not to imply that vegetables can have redemptive relationships with God.

The first rule is why there are almost no VeggieTales episodes focused on New Testament stories.

The second rule is why Bob speaks in the second person when he ends episodes with, “Always remember: God made you (not us) special and He loves you very much.”

14. Vischer’s Regret

It can be argued that VeggieTales episodes were driven more by biblical values than they were by actual biblical stories.

Vischer lamented this in an interview. “When I lost VeggieTales and Big Idea, one of my first responses when my head finally stopped spinning, was, ‘Wait a minute, did I just spend 10 years persuading kids to behave Christianly without teaching them Christianity?” he said.

“I can’t just tell kids to behave like Christians. I have to teach them the tenants of the faith.”

This led directly to one of Vischer’s next projects, the "What's in the Bible?" series, which is terrific Sunday School material!
