A friend told me about a group called Apologetix, and suggested that I sometimes use some of their music in Sunday School lessons.

It turned out to be a massive hit!  And nowadays with Spotify, Youtube etc. it is really easy to find these songs and print of the lyrics.  We had a lot of fun learning "Do what David did but Saul didn't do" which is a parody to the tune of "Do Wah Diddy Diddy".

As we are doing David, I focussed mainly on sourcing David songs (see a list below), but they have hundreds of amazing and fun songs, so all in all a great resource to occasionally dip into.

David songs:

Do what David did (Parody of "Do Wah Diddy Diddy").  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy4ckoSzQ2E

That's Saul (Parody of "That's All").  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooeRUKq8idI

Crazy Little Kind God Loves (Parody of "Crazy little thing called Love"0  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4XI35tUXgg

Bethlehemian Rhapsody (song about David and Goliath to the tune of "Bohemian Rhapsody").  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK4DAbfnHzM

Be like David Was (Parody of "Feel Like makin' love").   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRUgu3epAWc

Thanks Nicolette, fun find.    I particularly likes the "Good News" parody of "Footloose."

Here's a link to ApologetiX's entire playlist on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playli...CO9lfPrKscyW542Jg766   There's close to 400 Bible parodies! (how did I not know of these?)

Most of the songs they parody are from a few decades ago and brought a smile to my face. (Wierd Al Yankovic fan here.)

Questions for you:

What was the age of the kids you used these with?  Did you add motions? Make video recordings?

Was familiarity with the original song a problem with the kids you used these with?

Would love to learn more about how you incorporated these in your teaching.

P.S. I think these would be great for youth ...and quite a few older rock 'n rollers too.
