Sunday we began our family (kids & parents) summer rotation Sunday school ... this summer the theme is "God calls us ... around the world and around the corner". We started our first Sunday together with Paul's reminder in Romans 10:13-15 ...
"for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

The kids and parents painted each others' feet! Using face paints they painted symbols (fish, cross, heart, rainbow, etc) on the tops of their feet to remind them that when they carry the Good News to others, their feet are beautiful! Discussion within their family was encouraged while they worked ... the who, what, where, when, how of sharing the Good news. Even had them show and tell their "beautiful feet" in worship as part of the children's message! Fun!

The Greek word for beautiful is horaios. This is actually closer to our word ‘timely’. The verse is more about feet bringing timely news, which has an eternal beauty.

What makes feet beautiful/timely are the work they do. Thus, cleaning them, ritual washing, giving the Prodigal "new sandals", etc. is an act of refreshing, protecting, enabling, encouraging, restoring.

Lesson idea:  BEAUTY = WHAT YOU DO IN GOD'S KINGDOM, NOT HOW YOU LOOK.
