This discussion thread answers the poster's original question about "where can I find art stools for our Art workshop?"

If you're new to Rotation, you may wonder, "why do we need art stools?" Here's the answer!

  1. Art stools SLIDE easily under the table when you need to get them out of the way to work at the table on some projects.
  2. Art stools are LESS in the way when students start to move around the table working with each other and working with materials.
  3. Art stools have a SMALLER footprint than a folding chair, and you can sit and turn on them without having to turn the chair.
  4. Art stools SELF-ADJUST to your various age groups coming through the Art workshop. Smaller kids can sit on them and put their feet on the rung, while older kids can put their feet on the floor.
  5. Art stools are COOL looking!

--------------------
Generally speaking, there are two types of art stools you'll find:

Wood and Metal

Metal is more expensive, but they tend to hold up better over the years.
Wooden stools are less expensive, but they can get wobbly with use and time.

Below are some photos of different kinds of stools, used in various rooms (workshops) gathered from this site, to give you ideas.

Karen, school furniture stores carry art stools. However, the prices are higher than you might be able to find on your own. If you find the height you need, you might look at unfinished furniture stores and find stools that will work for you. How about builder's supply stores or craft/hobby stores?

You might get some ideas of prices from School Specialty's website at https://store.schoolspecialty.com .

If you put "unfinished furniture" in a search engine (I used Yahoo), you'll can find several sites that will let you compare prices on stools.

Also, how about checking with a used office furniture store? Your local elementary school(s) would probably have catalogs in the office they would let you browse through.

We got our stools at Wal-mart. They have 3 different heights. We used the smallest ones for our art room with regular sized tables. They are folding stools, so they can be folded up and stored very easily if need be. They only cost about $10 a piece. The tallest ones go up to close to $20 each. They have black steel legs and natural wood tops. We spray painted the tops with primary colors to better go with the art room. Maybe they will work for you smile

We got some great art stools from keysan (no longer in business) - they are very study and adjustable. They adjust from 17" - 25". They were $71.76 each - we got folks in the congregation to sponser the seats - they got a plaque on the bottom with their name on it.

We made stools out of 5 gallon buckets that were donated by the congregation. We had 15 in. squares of wood cut. We drilled a hole in the wood and bucket. We then inserted a bolt with a wing nut into the wood. We padded the wood with batting then covered them with broadcloth and vinyl. Then fasten the bolts to the buckets...the stools are not the height of our tables however, in the art, science, cooking room the children stand for their projects....Wendy

We ordered wooden stools from Linens n Things (appears these stores closed). Shipping was free if you order 10 or more. I also saw them at one of their local stores.

I've purchased stools from two different sources for two different churches.

My favorite ones are the ones from Wal-Mart mentioned above by Heather.

We also bought the wood topped ones for our art room and painted them in primary colors. One of our artists then painted pairs of animals on each one - our art room is called "Noah's Art."

In our computer lab we use another Wal-Mart stool with a black vinyl padded seat.

I find the lower stools generally work better than higher ones, but that depends on your table size.

There is a store called IKEA and they have a large assortment of stools very well priced.   I know there are stores around the country.

These black stacking "Marius" stools are 17 3/4 " (45 cm) height. Seat/Foot:Polypropylene, Leg: Steel, Epoxy powder coating.
