Video Workshop

Lesson Objectives:
- The children will be able to retell the story of the Great Flood.
- The children will be able to tell the meaning of the rainbow.
- The children will be able to tell that the story of Noah comes from the first book of the Old Testament - Genesis
- The children will know that God is faithful to all humanity.
- The children will know that God cares for all God's creatures and expects people to also.
Leader Preparation:
- Read the scripture ahead of time.
- Preview the video.
- Gather the materials.
Supplies List:
- Video
- Memory verse to hand out
- Bible
- Popcorn and drink (optional)
Advanced Preparation Requirements:
- Have the video ready to go when the kids arrive.
- Pop the popcorn.
Presentation
Opening- Welcome and Lesson Introduction
Greet the children and introduce yourself.
Open with a prayer.
Holy God, we thank you for our leaders. Help us to hear in the story of Noah, your words for us. Remind us, over and over, that you are always faithful and will never leave us. Lead us to live knowing this, in faith and confidence. in Jesus' name. Amen

Introduce Video: We will be seeing the story of Noah and the Ark. Does anyone know where in the Bible this story is found? Old Testament - first book of the Bible - Genesis. The story begins in Chapter 6 and continues through Chapter 9. (Show them where that is in the Bible and tell them if they do not know)
Show Video:
- While you watch the video -- you will hear about a covenant -- be thinking of what that word means. We will discuss this after the video.
- You will see three people in this video that do not belong in the story. They are there to narrate and guide us through the story. They are Derick, Margo, and Mokey.
- Give out popcorn and drink at this time and begin video -- 30 minutes.
Discussion Questions Following Video:
- Why did God save Noah and his family? Because Noah and his family were righteous -- (This does not mean they were without sin -- but they were faithful to do what God commanded).
- Why did God destroy mankind and the earth? Because of the sin, wickedness, violence, and corruption.
- Who closed the door of the Ark? God -- the hand of God, etc.
- Can you name the people on the Ark? Noah and his wife, his three sons, Ham, Shem, Jepheth and their wives.
- How long did it rain? 40 days and nights
Questions for the Younger Class:
- Have you ever gone on a long trip in the car with your family?
- How did you feel?
- How do you think you would feel if you were one of Noah's sons and you were shut up in the Ark with your mom, dad, two brothers, and all those animals?
- What do you think it smelled like in the Ark?
- What kind of noises would you have heard?
- How do you think Noah and his family felt when the rains kept coming down day after day?
Questions for the Older Class:
- What bird did Noah first release? A raven
- What kind of bird did Noah send out the second time? Dove
- How many times did he send the bird out before it returned with evidence that there was land? two
- What did it return with? Olive branch
- How do you think Noah felt when the people wouldn't listen to him?
- How do you think people felt when they saw the door of the ark being shut?
- How do you think Noah felt as he watched the people as it began to rain?
- Noah and his family knew the ark was a place of safety for them. Do you think they would have complained? What about?
- What do you do when God helps you in some special way? What can you do to thank him?
- How do you feel when someone thanks you for doing something? How do you think it makes God feel when we thank Him?
Covenant:
- God made a Covenant with Noah and all people -- What was that Covenant? That he would never again destroy the earth and all of its inhabitants.
- What sign did he show Noah of this Covenant? Rainbow
- What is a Covenant? An agreement -- a promise between two people or God and man.
History of Covenants:
- Throughout history, God has made Covenants with many people. The Covenant he made with Noah is an Everlasting Covenant. An Everlasting Covenant is one that God made with Noah and his family, but the promise extends to us and our families.
- Next month we will be talking about the Easter story -- this involves the Covenant of Grace. Jesus' birth, death, and resurrection established this covenant.
- Why are covenants still important to us today: Because of his Covenant of Grace, he has provided a way for us to escape judgment if we are willing to hear and obey his words.

Loving God, we thank you for the stories of the Bible. Thank you for teaching us about your faithfulness to us. Help us to be faithful to each other and to practice being a follower of Jesus in our daily lives. Amen.
