Wisdom of Solomon

Audio-Visual Workshop

Summary of Lesson Activities:

Using the "Wisdom of Solomon" video (from CCC’s “In the Beginning” series).

Leader Preparation:

  • Gather the materials.
  • Preview the video.

Supplies List:

  • "Wisdom of Solomon"
  • Popcorn

Opening- Welcome and Lesson Introduction:
1. Welcome and open with prayer.

2. Review what the students have learned about Solomon (or, if this is the first week of the rotation, what do they know about Solomon). Explain that this video touches on some of the high points of Solomon’s life.

Dig-Main Content and Reflection:

3. Pass out the popcorn and beverage and begin the video, The Wisdom of Solomon.

4. After the video is over, discuss:

  • What happened when Solomon built a temple for God? How did God show his approval? [Through a bright light, God showed his presence in the temple, and through fire from heaven he showed his acceptance of the sacrifice on the alter]
  • What example is given of Solomon’s wisdom [the decision concerning the disputed baby].
  • Why did the Queen of Sheba want to visit Solomon for herself? [to verify all the amazing accounts she had heard] What warning does she give Solomon? [it will be very difficult to remain wise and walk in God’s way, when he gets older and richer and marries many women. NOTE: in the Bible, this warning actually comes form Moses, not the Queen of Sheba!]
  • How does Idol worship re-enter the land of Israel? [One of Solomon’s women insists on being able to worship her god, or she will not serve Solomon] Why do you think Solomon was not stronger in keeping it out? What warning does the strange prophet give?

5. Clean up!

6. Close with a time of prayer. Ask the children if they have any special celebrations or concerns to share. Invite any students who are comfortable to pray.

  • The Wisdom of Solomon, Episode 21 in CCC’s “In the Beginning” series (CCC of America, 1995).
