Music Workshop Idea
(originally posted by member "Happy Teacher" and moved here during renovation)
We started with a short discussion of the significance of music and dance in biblical times, using some of the background info shared by the Kensington Congregational Church (Thank you very much!),
Then we taught "Hava Nagila", a Hebrew folk song, the title meaning "Let us rejoice". Although this is a song written only in the early 20th century, it introduced the children to the Hebrew language and music.
After learning that happy song, they learned the Hebrew circle dance (or horah). We got the choreography from Youtube. We had a GREAT time! Parents reported that children were singing and dancing as they were going home. And they even knew its meaning.
Thank God!

Here are the lyrics:
Hava nagila
Hava nagila
Hava nagila vi nis'mecha
Hava neranenah
Hava neranenah
Hava neranenah vi nis'mecha
Uru, uru achim!
Uru achim b'lev sameach
Uru achim, uru achim!
B'lev sameach
English Translation:
Let's rejoice
Let's rejoice
Let's rejoice and be happy
Let's sing
Let's sing
Let's sing and be happy
Awake, awake, brothers!
Awake brothers with a happy heart
Awake, brothers, awake, brothers!
With a happy heart
