Guide to Jeremiah ~ the movie (with Patrick Dempsey)

Guide to Jeremiah, the 1998 movie
JeremiahMovie

This very good 96-minute movie stars Patrick Dempsey as Jeremiah, a prophet who heard the call to preach against the moral and ethical corruption he saw occurring all around him in ancient Jerusalem. While Jerusalem in time fell to Babylon, Jeremiah continued to spread the word of God in Egypt. The movie also stars Klaus Maria Brandauer as King Nebuchadnezzar, Oliver Reed as General Safan, and Leonor Varela as Judith.

Jeremiah is part of the Bible Stories Collection of videos from Lux Vide and TNT, Jeremiah is particularly well done and quite usable with older children and youth in parts or as a whole study. It's really fascinating to see Jeremiah as a young prophet, and not as a raging old man of popular imagination.

Our guide suggests a number of scenes to skip if you're short on time or using it with children. It includes some discussion questions and suggestions of where to break the movie over a two-class showing.

The Jeremiah movie has been remastered in HD and apparently re-released under the "Bible Stories" title. Here's their new trailer. The voiceover is kind of hokey, but the visuals give you a good sense of the high production values.
