In addition to these public lessons and ideas posted below, our Writing Team has created an extra creative set of lessons on this story for our supporting members: Jesus Calls the Disciples ...and You!  The set's lesson summaries and Bible background are open to all.

This topic is for posting "other" lesson plans and ideas for teaching Jesus Calls the Disciples or his call of an individual disciple.

Luke 5: 1-11 "Fishers of Men," Matthew 5, Mark 1.

Note: In the Rotation Model we spend several weeks per story, thus, we have to prioritize which stories to teach. Typically, that means a Rotation Sunday School will just teach the "major story" of Jesus' call to the fisherman. You are certainly welcome to post ideas for "other calls," such as his call to Matthew.

Storytelling Ideas

I'm going to be storytelling the lesson of fishers of men. Does any one have any interesting and exciting ideas to help out? Thanks

How about having a net filled with fish that the children can help pull up at the appropriate time in the story. If you want to understand the story as evangelism, you can have the children write names on the fish ahead of time -- either their own names, friends who don't come to church, or just make up names.

Try thinking of ways to retell the story using modern jobs instead of fishermen. I'm sure the children could come up with some neat ideas.
