Trinity, God, Grace, "Church," "Worship," Salvation, Holy Spirit, etc etc. The following topics often began when someone asked for or came up with a lesson resource "about Grace" for example, or had a good idea for teaching "about the Church." Some of these discussion threads began as a question in our Teachers Lounge and were later moved and expanded here.

If you are looking for a subject that is typically associated with a BIBLE VERSE OR STORY, we suggest that you look up that Bible story in our Bible Story Lessons Forums.  For example, there is some "baptism" material posted here in this "Church Words & Theological Subjects" forum, but the Bible story forum about Jesus' Baptism has many more resources on that subject.

If you need help finding or coming up with a lesson resource, post your question in the Teachers Lounge.

Science Experiment Demonstrating " Trust"

originally posted by member NancyDir

Create a gooey mixture using just cornstarch and water that behaves like a solid and a liquid at the same time.

Creating a gooey glop that you will have to trust me when I say it WON'T make a mess when I pour it on your head!

Recipe Directions:  http://www.stevespanglerscienc...non-newtonian-fluid/. If link goes dead search "Steve Spangler's Website - for "Non-Newtonian Cornstarch Recipe"

You Tube Video Experiment using Mixture:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZTxIFmXV6c To see this experiment done by Steve on the the Ellen DeGeneres Show (2008).  Clip is from 1:09 to 1:50.

This is how it will be done.

Leader: (Note: the gook will be covered before the kids come up) I need to ask for 3 volunteers. Remember, before you volunteer you need to ask yourself one very important question. Do you trust me? Can you honestly say that you trust me! (I also plan to have our Pastor volunteer with the kids.)

Now that I have my volunteers, I want to show you what I have under my sheet! (take away the sheet to reveal the goop)

What I need each of my volunteers to do is to put your hand into my container and pull out what you feel to show everyone here what is inside.

All right! What I want all volunteers to do is take a bit in your hand and roll it around. Don’t stop! This is like trust, when everything is working together and there is no lying, things will work well together and hold strong.

Now stop rolling (it will fall apart). This is just like trust when someone lies, it all falls apart!

Ok, now I need all here to take what they feel and fill a second container with the goop! (than let them wipe their hands). Now that I have my container with my goop I need to ask you another time, do you trust me? (wait for their answers). So, if I were to drop a ping pong ball in this slop you trust me enough to know that I will not get you all messy and you won’t jump away? All right! (drop the ping pong ball in the mixture) Well.. nobody jumped away! Awesome! So, let me ask if I were to drop a larger item into the bucket you trust me enough that you know you won’t get dirty, right? Well, let’s try it! Bring me my (drum roll here!) brick! Stand on a step stool for dramatic effect and drop that brick into the container! It won’t splatter but see how many kids or adults (pastor) will jump away!

I will be doing this in this years VBS and will let everyone know how it goes! Science ROCKS!!

Smile Well... This went AWESOME! We typically have 20 - 30 children for VBS and this year we had 72 on Monday and by Friday 80 children! This lesson went really well just one suggestion... make sure to soak up the excess water before you drop anything into the mixture! One of the girls got a little wet but it did work! Pastor was hilarious.. Have fun with this.. it really does work!

Lauren Daigle's hit song: "Trust in you."

Lyric versions also available on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_aVFVveJNs

What makes this song different, other than being a great tune, are the lyrics. TRUST is what you do when God does NOT do what you hope for.

"When you don't move the mountains...  When you don't give the answers when I cry out...."

A really interesting take on "trust."

Trust In You
Letting go of every single dream
I lay each one down at Your feet
Every moment of my wandering
Never changes what You see
I try to win this war
I confess, my hands are weary, I need Your rest
Mighty warrior, king of the fight
No matter what I face You're by my side
When You don't move the mountains
I'm needing You to move
When You don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don't give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You
Truth is, You know what tomorrow brings
There's not a day ahead You have not seen
So let all things be my life and breath
I want what You want Lord and nothing less
When You don't move the mountains
I'm needing You to move
When You don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don't give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You
I will trust in You
You are my strength and comfort
You are my steady hand
You are my firm foudation
The rock on which I stand
Your ways are always higher
Your plans are always good
There's not a place where I'll go
You've not already stood
When You don't move the mountains
I'm needing You to move
When You don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don't give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You
I will trust in You
I will trust in You
I will trust in You
