David and Goliath

Computer Workshop

Summary of Lesson Activities:

Uses the Life of David (Kid's Interactive Bible Series) software.

The "Life of David" software program is now free to the supporting members of, learn how!

Learn more about all 6 programs in this series.

Lesson Objectives:

  • Able to identify events in their faith journeys that give them courage

Supplies List:

  • Life of David software
  • Paper and pens.
  • Bibles with timelines in them.

Leader Preparation:

  • Gather the materials.
  • Read the scripture.
  • Explore the program.

This lesson references activities found in the "Life of David" software. Sunday Software created an outline and have provided same for free to, which will help with this lesson. Outline found here, suggest you print it.


Opening-Welcome and Lesson Introduction:

Greet the children and introduce yourself.

Open with a prayer.

Intro. Find Memory verse in Bible, review

Dig-Main Content and Reflection:

1. Introduce explorers to computers. (10 minutes)

  • Divide into roughly equal teams around the computers.
  • Explorers take turns to do different parts of software

2. Start with the main interactive story: “David fights Goliath” (20 minutes)

Use the list of questions below as a worksheet for students to fill out as they go through the story. After filling it out, take a pause and discuss the answers. Elaborate!

3. Next, explorers take turns navigating “Discovering the Bible”

Have them hunt for the Bible verses about David and Goliath and look at the study notes that explore what having courage in God means. (15 min)

The software's outline from Sunday Software will be a big help here. You may add other study notes in the Discover the Bible section for older students to discover and have a question on the board associated with each.

4. AS a group, pause then go into the Bible Memory Game (under games).  Ask students to pick the memory verse they think BEST summarizes the teaching of this story.  Have them EXPLAIN why they picked that verse to the rest of the class, then let each play their memory verse game.

Give these questions for the students to discover as they go through the software:


1. Who was the King of Israel when David visited his brothers? What do you know about this king?

2. What was the name of Goliath’s nation? What do you know about them?

3. What was Goliath’s challenge?

4. What did David think about Goliath’s challenge?

5. What did the King offer to do for the man who fought & killed Goliath?

6. What did the King tell David after David said that he would fight Goliath? Why did the King change his mind?

7. Why did David think he could beat Goliath?

8. How did Goliath react when he saw David coming to fight him?

9. What did David say to Goliath?

10. What did David use to fight Goliath? What happened?

Answers for Leaders:

As they discuss questions 1-10:

1. Saul. Discuss who Saul was, the time period in Israel’s history, etc.

2. The Philistines. Discuss who they were, their five cities along the coast, etc. Use a map, if available, to show where they were.

3. One to one combat with him. The loser’s people would become slaves to the winner’s people or have to pay them taxes and give up prime lands.

4. He was amazed that no one in the Israelite army would fight Goliath.

5. a) Make him rich; b) Give his daughter to him in marriage; c) Honor his whole family

6. Saul answered, “Ridiculous!” Discuss why Saul may have changed him mind.

7. He was a shepherd and had to kill lions and bears to protect sheep. God would protect him from Goliath just like God protected him from the wild animals.

8. Goliath ridiculed David.

9. David answered, “You’re fighting with a sword and spear, but I’m fighting with the power of God.”

10. David used a sling. Discuss what happened. What eventually happened to David? He became King.

Here are the items in the optional scavenger hunt the kids can try to answer. They find these answers by clicking hotspots in the story pages.  This is mostly just for fun.

Take turns being the scavenger hunt scribe. This person calls out what you are looking for and writes down the answer.

OPTION: You can 'announce' each question to the entire class and see who finds the answer first in the story pages. Teams can work together and you can keep score. It will be a good review of the story too.

1. Where is the man with a bow tie hiding?
2. Whose weapon melts?
3. Who kisses?
4. Who catches a fly?
5. What is too heavy to be carried?
6. Where is the shark hiding?
7. Who throws a ball?
8. Who shoots a spit ball?
9. What explodes?
10. Who goes fishing?

Scavenger Hunt Answers:

1. In the flower pot.
2. Goliath’s spear.
3. The chickens.
4. The snake.
5. The sword.
6. In the kiddie pool.
7. The wolf in the hills by the tree.
8. The rat behind the tree.
9. The red box.
10. The narrator.


End with a prayer.
