Lessons, Ideas, Activities, and Resources for Teaching About the "Prince of Peace" born in the manger
Please post here your ideas for teaching about the Prince of Peace and Peace of Christ using art, cooking, drama, food, games, storytelling, music, computer, etc.
In this Advent forum, lesson ideas and activities are related to teaching about the Prince of Peace promised in Isaiah 9:6, and the peace promised by the angels to the shepherds in Luke 2: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace”
Here is Big Daddy Weave's amazing cover of the Rich Mullins* song, "Hold me Jesus."
It speaks to the inner peace, the peace of feeling God holding you that people need to feel safe, forgiven, and valued.
"You have been my King of Glory, Come and be my prince of Peace."
The "peace" in this song is more like the "comfort and rest" Jesus spoke about in Matthew 11-28-30...
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
And in John 14: 27
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Throughout the Christmas season, children will undoubtedly encounter the phrase “Peace on earth, good will toward men” and the baby Jesus described as “the Prince of Peace.” How do we model the true meaning of such words while chaotically trying to conquer the holiday checklist?
We begin by understanding the difference between peaceful and peace. It is one thing to live in a continual state of serenity without stress or conflict. It is quite another to experience a sense of well-being grounded in a right relationship with God, even during trying circumstances.
"Jesus the Prince of Peace" Sadako's 1000 Peace Cranes
The symbol of the dove of peace is known worldwide. It is first recorded in the Genesis story of Noah who sends out of a dove hoping to find safety for his family, and the dove brings back an olive branch in its beak.
Kirk of Kildaire's Sunday School Advent lesson plan for their Creation Station Art Workshop references the "Story of Sadako's 1000 Cranes." Below is a presentation of her story found on YouTube; there are others (not as good but still interesting).
Three things make Sadako's story of peace extremely poignant. First, she is a child like our students. Second, she is terminally ill when she makes the cranes. Third, she makes them after experiencing the devastation of one of the nuclear blasts that ended WW II.
There are many other "peace crane" tutorials on the web. One of the outcomes of folding peace cranes is how something that seems difficult becomes second-nature with practice, even almost meditative -- as people who have committed to folding 1000 cranes have reported. In fact, committing to fold 1000 cranes is a "thing" -- a sign of a heart that seeks to be peaceful and become a peacemaker.
How is the birth of the baby Jesus a sign of God's peace and good will towards us? (Luke 2)

(Note that while folding 1,000 cranes is traditional with the Sadako story, folding peace doves may be easier for younger students. There are many videos and instructions online teaching that fold, here is one.)
