The Ten CommandmentsWelcome to the Writing Team's Ten Commandments Lesson Set!

Everyone can read the Bible Background (which also doubles as a group Bible study) and the Lesson Summaries. The lesson plans themselves are open to our amazing Supporting Members who make this site possible. Join today

Special Note: These lesson plans have been written for both at-home and in-class use. They are more broadly-graded, and a bit simpler and shorter for families than typical "WT" lessons written for teachers. Each lesson plan is also available as a PDF that you can share with members of your congregation.

The following Summary and the Bible Background are open to all. Access to the Writing Team's lessons is one of the great benefits of being a Supporting Member of Rotation.org. Join today!

All of the following posted materials are also provided as PDFs you can save and send to teachers and families for use in class or at home. They were written during the 2020 pandemic with family and intergenerational use in mind, and for Sunday School.

Summary of Lessons

for the Rotation.org Writing Team's

Ten Commandments Lesson Set

Scriptures

Primarily Exodus 20: 1-17

Lessons in this set also reference Jesus' teachings on the Commandments in John 13:34 ("new commandment... love one another") and Matthew 22:36-40 (the great commandment). Several lessons also reference the visual metaphor of God's desire to "write the commandments on the tablets of our heart." (Among them, Proverbs 7:2-3.)

Description of the Set and Its Teaching Goals

The lessons in this set have been written with "home use" in mind (simpler, shorter, multi-age) and include in-class Sunday School adaptations. Ideally, several lessons in a row will be taught from the set to create a well-rounded learning experience and improved memory of the Commandments. Each lesson stands on its own, but they are also complementary.

Each lesson introduces all ten of the Commandments. Each lesson includes life application and an activity to help remember all Ten Commandments. The Video, Software, and Cooking lessons also include a little more of the story of Moses surrounding the giving of the Ten Commandments.

The Bible Background is key to all the lessons in the set. It was also written in the style of a "Bible Study" that a group can read together and discuss. Save and Share the PDF versions of the Bible Background and lesson plans so that members can view them on their computers or smart TVs and click the links in them!
