Notes About the Four Programs in This Group

  1. Awesome Bible Storiesjonah-faces
  2. Elijah and Jonah
  3. Ten Commandments
  4. Abraham and Sarah

The four programs in this grouping are all quite different from each other in style of presentation as well as content. Elijah and Jonah and the Ten Commandments programs are two of Sunday Software's most unique titles. Abraham and Sarah and Ten Commandments are full of presentations to start discussion. Whereas Awesome Bible Stories and Elijah and Jonah feel more like interactive Bible storybooks with pop-up info, questions and content-related activities.

See each program's age range comments. Each program can be explored at one or more workstations in a lab setting, or presented to a group by a teacher with a computer and large screen. Each can be used at home and are better used when an adult goes along.

Be sure you have QuickTime 7.7.9 for Windows installed before installing these programs. It’s a free download at https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837

Software: Awesome Bible Stories

Link to the Downloadable Zip Filemceclip1

Awesome Outline and Teaching Guide (also included in the download)

Student Handouts for 5 of the stories - these optional resources can be used to guide students through the software, help them record and remember content, and function as discussion helps. (Only Zaccheus doesn't have a handout in this zip file.)

Lessons at Rotation.org that use this software:

Awesome Bible Stories, Creation, Zaccheus, Adam and Eve, Jacob and Esau, Esther, Parable of the Talents

Awesome Bible Stories software has six different Bible story lessons in it:

  1. The Story of Creation (Genesis 1)
  2. The Story of Adam and Eve (Genesis 2)
  3. The Story of Jacob and Esau (Genesis 25-33)
  4. The Story of Esther (Book of Esther)
  5. Jesus and Zaccheus (Luke 19)
  6. The Parable of the Talents and Pounds ("Stewardship" - Matthew 25 and Luke 19)

  • Download and view a short video clip showing some parts of the program.
  • Download just the Talents Stewardship Game - open to all. This "talents.swf" file is a "flash" game that plays in your browser when you give it permission. You may ignore the distribution warning and freely share or upload the file.

In each interactive lesson, the story is retold through animation, narration, and interactive options. Each also includes questions for discussion, background notes, and learning activities. Story of Creation includes a unique and fun reflection activity. Jacob and Esau has a "Jacob and God Wrestling Game Quiz." Esther includes a quiz and a "Boo Haman!" button. Zaccheus has a life application game and "measuring your faith" activity. And Talents and Pounds (burying your gifts) ends with a fun "onscreen board game" about stewardship for young people.

Each story is drawn in a cartoon style with fun character voices and a sense of humor. Longer stories are condensed and each story is told with kid-friendly language that is true to the scripture and its meaning. The treatment of the Creation and Adam and Eve stories is modern and mainline - emphasizing the meaning and life application for us today.

Age Range: Each story and most activities are suitable for Ages 5 to 12. Some content is especially for older kids and can be skipped.

System: Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and 11.

Software: Elijah and Jonah

Link to the Downloadable Zip Filemceclip1

Guide to Elijah and Jonah program (also included in the download)

An Introduction to the Prophets Elijah and Jonah for parents and teachers. This document was prepared for those planning on teaching with E&J software during 2020's time of challenges and change, but it is a great intro for all times.

Copies of Student Worksheets (also included in the zip file)

Lessons at Rotation.org that use this software:

elijah-jonah-big-menu

Elijah’s 3 stories… -each an individual lesson:

  1. Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath (God cares for the outsider and poor)
  2. Elijah, Ahab & Jezebel, the Prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel, and the Still Small Voice (God is not in the fire)
  3. Elijah passes his prophet's mantle to Elisha and leaves on a chariot of fire (picking up the prophet's mantle)

Jonah - An interactive lesson from Joppa to Whale to Nineveh to Worm, narrated word for word from scripture with all the humor and irony restored! Jonah has a ton of mini-activities and pop-ups throughout the story and two fun reflection games.

Neil from Sunday Software writes:
I love all my software children, but Elijah and Jonah is my favorite for a number of reasons. First, Elijah and Elisha stories are some of my favorites in the Bible and as prophets go, Elijah was considered the greatest. So great in fact, that some thought Jesus was Elijah returned, and the disciples saw Elijah with Jesus at the Transfiguration. The relationship between Elijah and Elisha is also a metaphor for teachers and their students. Jonah was a prophet too! ...albeit, a reluctant one -- a fact and teaching opportunity that often gets lost in all the whale business. Last but not least, our Elijah and Jonah program is my favorite because of the interactive comic book format and illustrations, the fun and funny stuff, and the wonderful character voices and music. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and that it renews your appreciation for these fantastic stories.

Age Range: All ages and non-readers with help. Seriously, if you don't like this program and these stories for yourself (let alone for the kids), the Buildings and Grounds Committee has a place for you.

System: Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and 11.

Elijah and Jonah is full of mini-games that all have content, and can all be quickly accessed outside of the stories using a handy game menu.

For example, "Smoochie the Whale's Spittin' Game" teaches your students about things they can do to be a "prophet" in their own lives (use it to start a conversation).

EJ-smoochie

As "villains" go, they don't get more cartoonish and dastardly than Ahab and Jezebel who become foil's in God's lesson for a worn-out Elijah about what he needs to do next: go anoint the next generation of prophets!

Jezebel-ahab

Each story's final page has several follow-up activities and questions. Here's the one from the final page of Elijah and the Still Small Voice:

Software: The Ten Commandments

Link to the Downloadable Zip File
mceclip1The zip file is stored as an ATTACHMENT to this post. The zip includes a copy of the setup file, a readme file, and the guide.

Outline and Guide to the Ten C's Software (slightly improved version of what's also included in the download)

Suggested Hikes and More Teaching Details (also included in the download)

Lessons at Rotation.org that use this software:

The Ten Commandments software program features Sunday Software's most unique interface
-- 3 "photobubbles" shot on location on Mt Sinai.  A "photobubble" is a 360 degree photo that you turn and navigate with your mouse. In each photobubble there are several hidden hotspot that when clicked reveal all sorts of learning content and activities about the Ten Commandments. "Cool" is the perfect word to describe what this program looks and feels like. "Content-rich" is another!

TenC'sLogoThe first photobubble shows the base of the mountain, the second halfway up, and the third shows you the view from the top of Mt Sinai. Following the traditional structure of a lesson plan, more introductory content is found in the first photobubble at the base of the mountain and more "reflection" content is found at the top.

tenbubble

Age Range: Grades 3 and up. Teens and Adults will enjoy it too. Younger children will like the visuals and experience of "hunting" for content, but some of the content is over their heads or must be read to them (and perhaps made simpler as you do!).

This software program works great on one or more PCs in the hands of the students (with a teacher going along), or in the hands of the teacher who might be showing it to a large group on a bigger screen. Home users will find plenty to discover and talk about. Indeed, much of the content is discussion-starting, and questions abound.

System: Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and 11. Be sure to read the PDF in the zip about "adjusting the display size" to make the program fill more of your screen. BE SURE you have QuickTime 7.7.9 for Windows installed before installing this program. It’s a free download at https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837

Permissions: Sunday Software is making this program available to the Supporting Members of Rotation.org free of charge. The program may be installed on as many computers at your church as needed or shared with your church's members for their home use. The file may not be publicly posted or otherwise distributed beyond your congregation's use.

moses-officeStudents begin in Moses' "office" at Mt Sinai where he tells them the story of how he and the Israelites got to Mt. Sinai and what happened there, and why God gave us the Ten Commandments. Then it's on to the 3 photobubbles to learn more.

FirstPhotobubble

The view up the mountain in the first photobubble. A "door" icon appears when you
rollover the left corner of St Catherine's Monastery -- inviting you in for an introduction to the commandments.

Ten-Commandments-software-ArkofCovenant

Inside the Monastery located at the base of Mt Sinai students can click on the Ark of the Covenant to make the tablets rise so they can see and hear the Ten Commandments and a brief Bible study note about each. When students click on the stained glass, they will see several short videos of older children discussing what the commandments mean to them.

Ten-Commandments-software-ChaosBridge

To begin your climb up the mountain, students must cross the "Chaos Canyon Bridge."
Signs and planks on the bridge activate short presentations
about the meaning and purpose of God's Law.

Ten-TenCommandments-Software-TenCTablets

Halfway up the mountain, in addition to other hotspots to discover, students will find a Ten "Scramblements" game in which they must restore words to their correct location on the tablets before moving on.

ten-comm-quiz-screen-shot

Guarding the final climb to the top is a Climbing Game Quiz about the Ten Commandments and the story of the Ten Commandments.

top-big

See a Video Clip showing some of the Summit Activities:

The view from the top is spectacular. Embedded at the top are a hotspots that open reflection-oriented presentations and activities, such as a music video, a Ten Commandments "rewriting" exercise, and a guestbook where students can leave their answers to a short set of personal reflection questions for other climbers to read.

chapel-35k

Students rephrase, re-imagine, re-state the Ten Commandments with their own words to make them speak directly to their lives, such as, The Ten Commandments for My Family, ...what do we need to "protect " and not steal from each other in our family? What rule about the Sabbath does my family need?  What do I want my friends and parents to always be honest about me with? The boombox plays many of the songs and tracks heard during the climb up and the printer lets students print what they type for personal remembrance and group discussion. Click the mouse on the table to get started.

The "Guestbook" is one of several things to do at the top of Mt. Sinai. Later visitors to the top can see previous students' comments. The Guestbook questions can also serve as a "final thoughts" discussion.

Software: Abraham and Sarah

Link to the Downloadable Zip Filemceclip1

Guide to Abraham and Sarah software  (a version is also included in the download)

Lessons at Rotation.org that use this software include:

Abraham and Sarah features five areas of interactive presentations and activities:

I.     The Call and Giving of the Covenant
II.    Sarah and Abraham's Visitors
(Sarah's laughter)
III.   The Near-Sacrifice of Isaac
IV.   Insane Fanat-asy
Song and Reflection activity (What will others say about my faith?)
V.   Pay It Forward (A "living out the call" take-home activity)

Abraham and Sarah software features a unique and rather mysterious interface -- the "Scriptorium" (partially seen above) with its rising menu options that launch students into different learning areas. Several of the learning areas have animations and videos, and many have key songs with special visuals that help teach and reflect on important concepts. Like many other Sunday Software titles, Abraham and Sarah has content designed to start discussion and take students deeper if they and their teachers wish to go. Perhaps more than any other program, Abraham and Sarah focuses on life application -- "the Call" fo faith God extends to each of us, and how we can respond.

Age Range: Optimally grades 3 and up. Younger teens too. Younger children will enjoy some of the visuals, songs, and presentations, but will need help navigating.

System: Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and 11.

The software begins with a song and animation about the Call. See the Teacher's Guide for teaching suggestions about this section.

Abelogo

One of the coolest things about this software is the way it deals with the difficult subject and story of Abraham's "near sacrifice" of his son Isaac. The software does by bringing students into the animated scene as witnesses and questioners. A special music-video with interactive study screens makes the important theological connection between the sacrifice in this story and God's sacrifice of his son on the cross.

map

A map game introduces students to the geography of Abraham and Sarah's journey, the ancient kingdoms of Abraham's time, and the modern country in that region today.

The software includes some special learning activities such as a "camel race" quiz for one or two players or teams about all of Abraham and Sarah's story as found in the software.

sarah-screen52k

Abraham and Sarah is rich in life application activities. The above screenshot shows one of the interactive screens that students fill out and discuss after viewing a short music-video about the response one young person experienced from his friends when he started going to church.

Tech Tip: Adjust your Windows "display" zoom to make this program fill more of your screen. Learn how.
